DNA extraction! Virtual workshop, May 31, 2023, 2pm Eastern time

$5 / seat, this is a virtual workshop done live via zoom.

The zoom meeting information will be sent to the email address you provide during registration when you pay. Expect the link to be emailed probably May 30th (the day before).

This is a Bring Your Own Materials workshop.

The biomatter you bring will determine the equipment you’ll need.

Step 1: Choose your biomatter:

-Fruit (bananas or strawberries recommended) – one of the easiest biomatter to process

-wheat germ

-yourself.  Also one of the easiest biomatter to process

Fruit:

-strawberries thawed from frozen will work just fine, or a fresh banana

-table salt -distilled water

-zip lock or sandwhich baggie -dish soap

-test tube or a tall, narrow clear glass

-methanol (lock deicer or fondue fuel, just look for methanol or methyl hydrate or methyl alcohol) or isopropyl alcohol of 80% or higher purity

-a long stir stick or Q tip that can reach down into the test tube or clear glass

Wheat germ:

-a blender or coffee grinder or mortar and pestle

-table salt -distilled water

-a small cup -coffee filter

-dish soap

-test tube or a tall, narrow clear glass

-methanol (lock deicer or fondue fuel, just look for methanol or methyl hydrate or methyl alcohol) or isopropyl alcohol of 80% or higher purity

-a long stir stick or Q tip that can reach down into the test tube or clear glass

Your own DNA:

-Lemon Lime original Gatorade (not sugar free nor G2)

-small cup

-dish soap

-test tube or a tall, narrow clear glass

-methanol (lock deicer or fondue fuel, just look for methanol or methyl hydrate or methyl alcohol) or isopropyl alcohol of 80% or higher purity

-a long stir stick or Q tip that can reach down into the test tube or clear glass
